Casey Kho, an Outreach Specialist with the California Telephone Access Program (CTAP) recently reminded CDBS staff that free, specialized telephones and support are available to individuals who have hearing and/or visual impairments.  All you need to do is fill out a simple application, have it signed by the appropriate service provider, and mail or fax it back to them.   CTAP is part of the Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program of the California Public Utilities Commission, and the application can be found at:  http://ddtp.cpuc.ca.gov/HomePage.aspx?id=91&LangType=1033.  For more information, you may download a pdf of CTAP's fact sheet in English or Spanish.

Another important service of the Deaf and Disabled Telecommunications Program is the California Relay Service (CRS), "a wide range of calling services to link deaf, hard of hearing, and speech-disabled callers with hearing callers."  Information about CRS can be found at:  http://ddtp.cpuc.ca.gov/default1.aspx?id=1482&ekmensel=c580fa7b_48_154_btnlink.
